Podcast Storyboard
As far as doing a podcast, my rig is in flux right now but we can try using iChat. What does your schedule look like this weekend? Saturday night or Sunday most of the day should be available on my end. Airmarshall Bill – wanna get in on the podcast? Uncle Frank?
Basically, we’d start an audio chat with iChat. I’d fire up Garage Band on this end. Garage Band detects a live chat in progress and offers to record it. I mix it down, create a feed, link and upload the files to bagcam.org. If all participants record themselves in high quality format, then send me the files, I can also merge them. Clunky but produces much better audio.
Eventually, Skype would be a better choice, and I’d start using Ubercaster. Better audio quality, easier to recycle sounds, bumps, intro/outro, etc between shows for consistency and ease of editing/post production. I need to liberate a couple hundred more dollars to support that setup though.
Here’s a strawman podcast storyboard for a weekly show:
Intro (30 secs) – “welcome to, music bump, who we are, why we’re here”.
This week in airport security (5 mins) – news, changes, alerts, lapses
Sponsor/equipment review (1 min) – talk about cameras, gadgets, bags, passport holders, whatever
Tales from the road (5 mins) – latest travel stories, silly things you saw people doing at the airport, TSA in action
Sponsor/Travel Tip (1 min) – things like “book the shady side of the plane”, or “Don’t sit in row 8 on a CRJ to avoid the hump”, etc
Listener feedback/questions (2 mins) – read emails or play show comments.
Outro (30 secs) – “thanks to sponsors, thanks for listening, for more info go to, until next time, music bump”
Total time: 15 minutes. Format could be doubled to 30 minutes. We could also record 30-60 minutes and only release 15 each week.
We could also have rotating segments:
- Airport profile (JFK, DFW, LAX, SEA, ATL, etc) with history, layout overview, hidden secrets, parking
- Aircraft profile (MD-80, B737, CRJ, ERJ, etc): Seat layout, exit door locations, galley/rest room arrangements, best/worst seats
- Airline profile: history, equipment, refund practices, lost luggage procedures, contact info. I wanna do Hooters Airline…
- “If *I* were Chertoff”: what we’d do if we ran DHS. Might even have an impressionist so Chertoff could be our “guest” every couple of weeks
- Listener Story of the Week
